Sunspot Solar Observatory Consortium Data Archive (SSODA)

The Sunspot Solar Observatory Consortium

The Sunspot Solar Observatory Consortium is a partnership between several academic institutions to operate the Dunn Solar Telescope (DST), and provide customer access to the high-quality data obtained at this facility. Consortium members providing funding, staff, or instrumentation include New Mexico State University (NMSU), The National Solar Observatory (NSO), the High Altitude Observatory (HAO), The University of Hawai'i Institute for Astronomy (IFA), Queen's University Belfast (QUB), California State University, Northridge (CSUN), and the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder).

Archive Access:

This website is intended to distribute scientific data from facility instruments, including ROSA, FIRS, SPINOR/HSG, IBIS, and Zyla. For general information on the observatory, including for visitors, please see sunspot.nmsu.edu.

Data obtained with consortium instrumentation at the DST is available publicly to the Solar Physics community. To access the 230TB of archival data, please email the Observatory's Science Director, Dr. Juie Shetye (jshetye at nmsu.edu) or the Observatory's Support Astronomer, Dr. Sean Sellers (sellers at nmsu.edu), and instructions for access will be provided.

Data Products:

SSOC provides data from facility instruments at levels 0, 1, 1.5, and 2. Information about each instrument, as well as a brief explanation of data levels can be found at this page.

For detailed descriptions of the data products, including models and examples of both data and header information, please see the documentation for the ROSA instrument, the FIRS instrument, and the HSG instrument.

For convenience, the links at the top of the page direct to shorthand tables of the specified observation types, and our new search tool can also assist in finding specific datasets.

Feedback and assistance:

To report problems, provide feedback, or request assistance in using the archive, please contact the Science Director, Dr. Juie Shetye (jshetye at nmsu.edu) or the Support Astronomer, Dr. Sean Sellers (sellers at nmsu.edu).
